You writing a movie called “My Perfect Life.” Every day, you strive to have perfect health, perfect finances and the perfect marriage. When suffering occurs, you’re angry because that means your game is being ruined.
Hashem is writing a movie called "The Greatest Story Ever Told." Hashem wants to tell the greatest story ever told for all people. We are told that it’s all being recorded “above” like one big 7,000-year-long movie.
What's you role in this movie?
The Director says I have waited a long time for you to turn to me and find out what your role is. Your role was never to have the perfect life for yourself. Your role is to find a way to be a hero for someone else.
Because what is a hero? Think about every movie you’ve every watched, does the hero just save himself? Or does he save the whole town, or even all of humanity? Anyone who is willing to go beyond himself for the greater good is a true hero.
The great audience in Heaven will be glued to the screen, crying for you, praying for you, waiting to see what you’ll do and who you’ll become.
Every day you are being chosen to have a small part in the Great Production. The challenges will be there, because in the pain your find your purpose. That is where greatness is born. So when the "conflict" in the movie comes, welcome it. This is the role you have been cast for.
Who do we root for?
Why don’t we like the story of the trust fund kid who just made more millions, but we love the story of the guy who came from nothing worked his way up against all adversity and became a billionaire?
Last night at the US Open we had two great Americans playing in the semi-finals, Taylor Fritz vs Frances Tiafoe. Taylor Fritz came from a long line of successful tennis players and wealthy parents who had the money to invest in his skills. Frances Tiafoe had immigrant parents and learned to play while his dad was a Janitor at a tennis clinic. He had limited resources and developed his skills by practicing extensively and observing others. Who do you think the crowd was going wild for?
It is because deep inside we all know that greatness is revealed from challenges and light shines the brightest in the darkest room.
When a challenge seems too big to handle, that just means the light you have to reveal is just as great. When you start to feel pressure, this is the Director’s way of saying, “I believe in you. I have a lesson that I need to teach the audience, and I think you can do it like no one else in the world.” That is your moment. Do something with it that’s worth watching. Something that makes the Director smile.
Your Script:
You’re in a scene in which the world has been encompassed by darkness for thousands of years. Everyone has forgotten what light even is. Everyone has a single match, but they don’t know what to do with it.
Your match is your actions. Your soul is your fire. And when you hit a rock, instead of losing faith, strike the match.
You strike your match, others are amazed at what they see. They start to do the same. Soon thereafter, candles all over the globe light up the world and together we create the greatest story ever created!
I pray that we all have the vision to see the bigger picture of the real game we are all playing. I pray that we all access the light and strength within us when times are hard. And I pray that the collective of those actions lights up the world with so much goodness and hope that it deems the bringing of Moshiach now! Amen!
